What TV series do you like to own? was created by sozzled
Perhaps it's a distant relative to the subject of "At the movies", but I thought it might be an interesting way of introducing ourselves if we talked about TV series. Some people like TV series and some people don't. There aren't too many shows that memsahib and I regularly watch (either separately or together), however there are a few that we've decided are worth going to the expense of having our own copy so that we can watch them at our convenience.

It's interesting, I think, that recently there's been a boom in the industry of releasing old TV shows - shows that we grew up with as kids in the 60s (or even earlier, perhaps), like The Saint, Mission Impossible or The Samurai. It's fun to go on these kinds of nostalgia trips back to an age of innocent political incorrectness, when men could do anything they wanted and women were relegated to the slavery of looking after the home, children and providing the entertainment and comforts of living. I'm not saying that I agree with the portrayal of this kind of gender-based stereotyped lifestyle, but it's amusing these days to look back on old TV shows and think "What the hell did I ever like about this program?"

The convenience of DVDs makes them particularly suitable for storage and retrieval of old TV shows - if that's what you're "into". I thought I'd ask the question about what shows our members may have a particular liking of.

I'll start by saying that, for the past 12 months, memsahib and I have watched the entire five seasons of Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone. Another favourite show of ours, that we obtained the complete set of episodes, was Doc Martin. Yesterday I bought the complete set of The West Wing.

Have you bought any TV series recently? Would you even consider buying any?

If you think I'm wrong then say "I think you're wrong". If you say, "You're wrong", how do you know?

I own all three seasons of Deadwood, an HBO western that is gruesomely realistic about the settling of western territories of the United States.

I also own the entire series of The Red Green Show, and Canadian comedy that ran for thirteen years or so in Canada.

Other than those, I don't think there are any other shows on that I would consider going out and buying them on dvd. However, I should probably consider getting M*A*S*H cuz I consistently watch 10 episodes a week on tv. I think I've seen every episode at least 5 times or so but I never get tired of watching that show.
