As for the "spaces" idea, I can implement that as a separate discussion board. I think that's a good idea, Tushy. Thank you. :up:

I've been thinking about having a poetry section for a long time. The idea itself is a good one (just as it's possible to add a section for food recipes, say) but, as a separate message board it didn't achieve any particular success at The 40Plus Club.

There are several ways we could add poems or prose - elegantly written stories - to our site. One way is to use our discussion forums. Of course, using our foums invites members the opportunity to comment on submitted items (if that's what you want to see happen), but I don't see the need for a separate board as such. If people want to submit a poem, why not simply post the item as a new discussion topic on the "General" board? Perhaps, as a means of indicating that the item is a piece of poetry, people should include the word "poem" in the topic title; for example, "Poem: My life in a fishbowl" or "Poem: Casabianca (aka 'The boy stood on the burning deck')".

There are other ways we could add poems or items of prose, too, just as there are ways to add whole new custom-built web pages to our site. You'll see some examples of these if you look at our miscellaneous articles area.

OK - so we just add everything on the general board - was just checking

I suppose if we want to move it - its alot easier in here to rearrange stuff

I've had a talk with memsahib and, perhaps, a better solution to the poetry/prose matter is to use a feature known as "child boards". I've created a child board under the General board called "Bookshelf" - the board's description says how it can be used. Poems can be put in (on?) the "Bookshelf". We think that idea works better.

There's been a task on my "to do" list for a long time: writing a few notes to help people with the membership application process. You might think that it's such a simple activity that shouldn't need writing about but, I can tell you, I get asked about it a lot.

I added a few games today.

Today I've implemented a new user menu function for members of The Quoroom: Submit a Web Link. This function allows members to recommend links to useful websites or to advertise their own, if they like. While I'm happy to see people using this feature, this raises a few issues I'm sure we're well aware of. The following extract from our site policy summarises these matters:

1. Websites submitted to our web links page must be accessible to all members; links to websites that require people to join or subscribe to another service before they can be seen, or that fail to disclose that fact, will be removed.
2. Links to websites will be removed if they are links to pornography, online dating "services", hate sites, racist, sexist or other forms of bigotry, sites that are illegal or contrary to principles for which The Quoroom exists. While we tolerate "free speech" that does not give people the unfettered right to disrespect other people's sensitivities on certain matters.
3. Links submitted by members are for information only. While the management reserves the right to review and remove links that do not conform to site policy, their presence does not imply endorsement.

Please also note that, in order for your submitted web link to appear on our web links page, you must check the "publish" button on the submission form.
